| About the
Marching Generals...
The 133 member Anthony Wayne High School
Marching Generals are known throughout
the United States as a show band. Their popularity is promoted
by their precision
dance steps and their exciting music. Their high-stepping
moves prompt standing
ovations at every performance. The Marching Generals wear
a uniform modeled after
General Mad Anthony Wayne of the Revolutionary War.
The Generals marched in the 2007 New Year's Day Parade in London, England. They have also appeared in three Orange Bowls, a Citrus Bowl, and a Cotton Bowl, as well as the respective parades for each. They played during Governor George Bush's 2000 Presidential campaign. Other performances include: two Chicago Holiday Parades, three Detroit Holiday Parades, three Windsor Holiday Parades, a Detroit Lions Football halftime show, a Cincinnati Reds pre-game show, and several Disney World Parades, leading "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade" in 2002. The Marching Generals also have a long-standing tradition of performing in festivals and parades across the state of Ohio, as well as in pre-game and halftime shows for the University of Toledo and Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.
The Anthony
Wayne Instrumental Music Department is proud of their well-rounded
program that
includes these other ensembles: Two performance- oriented
jazz bands, a pit band
for drama productions, a volunteer pep band of over 85
members, a concert band,
a symphonic band, and participation in all of the Ohio
Music Educators Associations
adjudicated events.
About the
Anthony Wayne Band Boosters...
▪ Who belongs to the Anthony Wayne Band Boosters (AWBB)?
Our volunteers largely comprise “band parents” – those with students in our district’s music program. However, anyone interested in supporting your student's musical endeavors can swing with the Boosters!
▪ What exactly do the AWBB do?
We only exist to “boost” or support all school bands from 5th to 12th grades. AWBB is here for our students. From uniforms to bullhorns, from instruments to battery chargers, if it’s necessary for the band to have, we provide it.
▪ What do you mean “we”?
As a volunteer group, we solely rely on fundraising and individual/business donations. We receive no financial support from the AW school system.
▪ Fundraisers?
We sell Entertainment books in the fall, fruit in early winter and candy in spring. We also host a Showcase of bands in fall and a spring BBQ. That’s all done every year. We fundraise even more every four years to help cover major trip expenses.
▪ Whoa! You sure expect a lot, don’t you?
It’s a lot of hard work for us! The care and feeding of our instrumental music program is very expensive. If we don’t ask, we don’t get. The upside: Our band has a statewide reputation and we’ve been seen around the USA and in London, England. The downside: Hard work begets more hard work when you have a reputation to protect and a future to guarantee.
▪ What about donations?
There are 4 levels: Friends (up to $49), Sponsors ($50-$99), Patrons ($100 – $249) and Premier Patrons ($250+). Any donation is deeply appreciated. Send a check to: Friends & Patrons, Anthony Wayne Band Boosters, P.O. Box 2753, Whitehouse, OH 43571. Everyone wins: You get a tax deduction and gifts based on your giving level. We keep the band looking well and the students keep playing well. We patronize local businesses that contribute money or products.
▪ What if I can’t or don’t want to give money?
How about some time? We always need volunteers. It’s hard work, but someone’s gotta do it. We meet the 1st Monday of the month (no meetings in January, or July), 7 pm, in the high school band room. Especially consider coming if your child’s in band at any grade level. If Monday night’s a problem, email your interest to info@awbb.org. We have a great music program; AWBB always strives to make it better.
