Solo and Ensemble Contest
All Junior High band students will be required
to participate in OMEA's Solo and Ensemble contest. The purpose
of this State contest is to promote and encourage students
to improve musicianship through solo or ensemble performance.
Students may choose to play a solo, play in an ensemble, or
perform both a solo and participate in an ensemble. Any student
choosing a solo must have a private instructor. If a student
is unable to make the scheduled date of contest based on an
excused absence, then they will perform their solo/ensemble
in another venue chosen by the Director.
Junior High Honors Band
The district honors band allows advanced
students to participate with other high caliber musicians
outside of the Anthony Wayne School District. They meet one
weekend in the Spring to rehearse and then perform a concert.
Students will be nominated by the director based on ability,
attitude, effort, and grades. They must then be chosen to
participate by the district committee. More information about
the Honors Band will be given as the even t approaches.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are available and highly
recommended. In general, the best students in band usually
have a private teacher. Every student, regardless of ability,
can benefit from private lessons. A list of private instructors
will be made available and we can get you in contact with
these instructors. Local college and university music programs
are a great source for private instruction.
Practice Schedule
Students should have a consistent practice
schedule. This should include no less than 3 hours a week
of practicing on their instrument, however, correct practice
habits are important. In order to achieve this, assignments
will be given by a director either in class or during a sectional.
The student should mark that on the practice record and then
take that home to practice those sections. This way, students
know what they need to practice and are not spending all their
time on material they are already familiar with. Practice
Record Sheets will be due Friday of every week. It must have
a parent/guardian signature. |
